National Reentry Program

The numbers offer us a sobering reality. Data indicate that over 60% of parolees are rearrested within three years of release from prison; over 75% are back in prison within five years of release.

About the Program

Research and Experience

Tayba’s approach to reentry harnesses the power of evidence-based research. Research indicates that providing mental health services to the incarcerated/formerly incarcerated helps to reduce recidivism by attending to untreated trauma which in many cases is the underlying cause of criminality. We also recognize that substance abuse is a major factor in high incarceration and recidivism rates. We are in the process of adding mental health specialists and substance abuse counselors to reentry programming in order to facilitate our clients rising to their fullest potential.

We feel that this amalgam of excellent programming and disciplined mentoring helps our clients overcome recidivism.

Before Parole

At Tayba, we believe that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Our team crafts evidence-based parole plans for clients approaching their release dates. Recognizing that every situation is unique, our professionals explore risk aversion with clients to identify potential issues that may arise after re-entry into the private sector.

Our case management provides Tayba clients with points of contact that are specific to their areas of release in order to help them gain assistance with housing, job training, jobs, mental health services and clothing.

Networking is a hallmark of our model; our parole plans are thoroughly vetted by trusted individuals and organizations to ensure feasibility.

After Release

Coaching and peer-mentoring are offered to all clients following release from prison. These one-on-one relationships, often facilitated by the formerly incarcerated who have succeeded in reentry, provide safe spaces for conversation, encouragement, and troubleshooting.

Tayba’s team wants all clients to move beyond parole, building strong families, engaging in meaningful jobs, and avoiding further issues with law enforcement. Inasmuch, we constantly evaluate the effectiveness of our approach by monitoring the success of our clients.

In addition to our mentoring services, we provide our clients with networking opportunities, resumé building, housing assistance, job training, and entrepreneurship advice.
