10 years of da’wah, but he became Muslim because of THIS?

Brother Muhammad (you may remember him as Gary) spent a lot of time behind bars trying to give da’wah. One of the people he actively discussed Islam with was a man by the name of Preston.

But despite the over 10 years of close association with Muhammad, Preston never became Muslim. Today, Muhammad is free and works at Tayba. One of his responsibilities is sending and receiving prison communication.

A few days ago, he got a call from his friend Preston… who wanted to take his shahada. Muhammad guided him through becoming Muslim over the phone.

But why, after all these years, did Preston finally take the plunge and become Muslim?

He was reading Islam 99, Tayba’s introductory textbook developed specifically for the incarcerated. He was about halfway through the book when he decided that he needs to become Muslim.

Back in 2017, hundreds of Tayba supporters sponsored the production of Islam 99. We wanted to share with you this story so that you know that your support helped bring Preston - and likely many others like him - to Islam.

We know Preston’s story because of Muhammad. But we probably don’t know dozens - maybe hundreds - of stories that happen behind bars without our knowledge.

What we do know is that the Islamic education you help bring to American prisoners transforms their lives.
