PRESS RELEASE: Tayba Foundation Expands Educational Support to Canadian Prisons

Tayba launches in Canada

Ontario, Canada, 31 October 2024 – Tayba Foundation is pleased to announce an initial launch of its educational programs in Canada, beginning with the distribution of its Islamic learning resources in prisons across Ontario and British Columbia. This initiative follows productive discussions between Tayba Foundation and prison chaplains from the Canadian Corrections Department. These conversations centered around addressing the needs of Muslim prisoners and finding ways to support their personal and spiritual development.

Tayba's books, Islam99 and OA101, are already available in seven Ontario prison libraries, where Muslims have been benefiting from the curriculum. With this groundwork in place, Tayba Foundation is poised to extend its reach and provide further educational opportunities.

The expansion of Tayba Foundation into Canada aims to extend its educational support to underserved Muslim prisoners in Ontario and British Columbia, aligning with its mission of transformative rehabilitation. Additionally, it seeks to establish greater awareness of Tayba’s work in prisoner education to the public.

How it will work

Tayba Foundation will provide its Essentials course books to prison chaplains, who will then distribute the materials to Muslim prisoners. Books will be mailed directly to the chaplain's office, and chaplains will forward students' work and feedback electronically to Tayba’s instructors. Additionally, Tayba is considering a support system where prisoners can call instructors for coaching and guidance, potentially using a Canadian phone number for security purposes.
